ICAR 2014 Convention - Review

31 Oct 2014

Practical Day

This marked the first ICAR Congress held in the USA, with more than 330 persons in attendance representing 29 countries. The venue, on the shores of Lake Tahoe amidst the Sierra Nevada Mountains, was both scenic and suited to the needs of the Congress.

The Practical Day (Pre-Conference Workshop), held on Heavenly Mountain and attended by more than 260, was a great success due to, in large part, the efforts of Dominique Létang, President of the ICAR Avalanche Rescue Commission (France) and Fidel Elsensohn, President of the ICAR Alpine Medicine Commission (Austria). Their leadership was instrumental, but the tireless organizational efforts of Manuel Genswein (Switzerland), is what truly made this day a very beneficial and educational day for all involved.

The main activities of the Congress were held in Harvey's Hotel and Resort and proceeded smoothly. Of significance was the passing of the ICAR leadership reins from President Gerold Biner (Switzerland), to Franz Stämpfli (Switzerland). The MRA wishes President Stämpfli and the ICAR organization continued success representing mountain rescuers worldwide and is greatly appreciative of the opportunity to host the 2014 ICAR Congress.

Dan Hourihan, Organizing Committee, Mountain Rescue Association MRA.
