President of the Avalanche Rescue Commission
Stephanie Thomas served as a mountain rescuer with Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) in Jackson, Wyoming, from 2007 to 2025. She is currently an Advisor to the American Avalanche Association.
Stephanie founded and led the Teton County Search and Rescue Foundation from 2010 to 2023, where she focused on backcountry education and prevention while raising critical funds to support the volunteer members of TCSAR.
She served on the ICAR Avalanche Commission beginning in 2018, including terms as Vice President and later President. In these roles, she helped guide international collaboration, supported working groups, and advanced the development and revision of avalanche rescue recommendations.
Stephanie believes that organizing experts within the ICAR avalanche community to pursue both short- and long-term goals—while continually updating and refining best practices—is a powerful opportunity. She is excited to continue serving and supporting the global ICAR community.
