About ICAR Recommendations

Some explanation on the naming of documents across our online library on this website

To make searches in our document library on our website easier, the following name giving convention is applied:

Date (year, month, day) = always represents the current valid from date (either creation/approval or last modification), what you see is what's valid now.

Time (hhmm) = optional insert after date, if several documents of the same day.

XYZ-REC0000 = originating organizational body (3-letter abbreviation) with a unique, consecutive numbering (4-digits).

Title = keywords in plain text.

Example: 20150124-AVA-REC0010 Be searchable!

Recommendations of the Alpine Emergency Medicine Commission always need prior approval/publication in medical journals before they can be published on our website (and therefore they often have the layout required by those medical journals).

If a document is available in other languages than English, you will find the choices when accessing the document with a click (otherwise the English version will automatically appear).

Formerly used logos and abbreviations might still appear within older documents (after opening them up). Here's the conversion table to the new structure:

REC L 0000 now AVA-REC0000, Avalanche Rescue Commission

REC B 0000 now TER-REC0000, Terrestrial Rescue Commission

REC A 0000 now AIR-REC0000, Air Rescue Commission

REC M 0000 now MED-REC0000, Alpine Emergency Medicine Commission

REC V 0000 now BOA-REC0000, Executive Board

Dog-Handlers Sub-Commission = DOG (formerly attached to AVA)

By using the full text search function (lens symbol on the top right side of the website), you can search for any character string published on our website (function not available for names and content of downloadable documents or external links).

ICAR is an international association. Our network brings together best practice know-how and issues recommendations (common consensus) for interested organizations. As the name says, these are recommendations, not locally binding laws. Of course, when an organization wants to become an ICAR member, we look at the facts, how much such an organization follows our recommendations.
